Community ICT – Essential Skills Information Session

Date:     Thursday 10th November 2016

Time:    12 – 2.00 pm

Venue: Ashton Centre Board Room

Community ICT is a well-established project delivering Essential Skills to residents in the Greater New Lodge area.   September 2016 saw the introduction of the revised Essential Skills strategy, which will impact on Community ICT.  However, the basics remain the same.  Essential Skills English and maths courses are designed for people who have been out of education for a long time, and those who need to improve their English and maths skills for employment.  ICT is used in classes and there is an opportunity to gain a qualification in using computers alongside the accredited English and maths qualifications from Entry Level to Level 1.  Classes are small and informal, and there is also some one -to -one provision for those taking their very first steps back into education and employment.  Participants who complete courses on the project can progress to further courses at college, for example, Belfast Met or vocational training within the Ashton Community Trust.

The information session is a good opportunity to see what the project can offer, and to find out about the changes to Essential Skills and how these will affect future participants.
